An Overview on the Various Regional and National Rules of Checkers
Just like all the top games out there, the rules of checkers can be interpreted in so many different ways, depending on the area or region where it is being played. Because of this obvious diversity, it can be easily recognized how widely the game has been received by people from the different corners of the world. The positive implications of this very fact only prove how great the magnitude of this game has become at a global level.
After the game has been subject to various analysis and interpretation, checkers was finally divided into twelve major variants. As they are entirely unique from each other, every variation promises to bring a certain kind of excitement that is different from the others. Upon comparing one kind from the other, it is important to note that it is really quite not fair to say that one variant is better than the others, for they are all subjective in nature.
The number of variants supports the popularity of the game among different nations. For example, a variation was devised in Poland that is very exciting, yet it differs greatly from the other kinds of checkers games. In Brazil, they came up with another version wherein the game is played in a much smaller board than the Polish version. Because the latter was patterned from the former, noticing certain striking similarities between the two variations are quite normal.
Furthermore, there are also internationally recognized variations from Canada, Ghana, and Spain. Using a much larger table than usual, the Canadian checkers has transcended the other variations in term of size and number of pieces. With 30 pieces to use in each side on top of a 12 by 12 checkerboard, this version is without a doubt the biggest officially recognized version today. Meanwhile, Ghanaian checkers may only have 20 pieces to use on each side, but it has its own charisma and attractiveness in drawing players to partake in the game. The Spanish version, which is also referred to as the Spanish pool checkers, is not that bad either.
If other countries have devised their own excitingly unique versions of the game, countries like Russia, Italy, and the Czech Republic are not to be left behind. Likewise, Argentina, Turkey, and Thailand are not to be outdone as well. These are not all for it may take more than enough to discuss the other invented variations of the game. Aside from the fact that the game is truly recognized all over the world, this kind of diversity shows how exciting and thrilling the game can be, despite the changes and other elements that were added to it.
